What personal data we collect and why we collect it
By default LifeOnTheMediterranean does not collect any personal data about visitors, and only collects the data shown on the User Profile screen from registered users. However some of our plugins may collect personal data such as contact forms, comments, cookies, analytics, and third party embeds. Please see below
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site we collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.
An anonymous string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, you should avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS) included. Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images on the website.
Contact forms
When you send us an email, the only data that is retained is your name or alias, and your email address. This information is kept for only one year and is not used for marketing purposes, but only to comment back to your comment to us.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site you may opt-in to saving your name, email address and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so that you do not have to fill in your details again when you leave another comment. These cookies will last for one year.
If you visit our login page, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This cookie contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.

What Information is Collected
When using or commenting on the Life On The Mediterranean website, we may collect personally identifiable information such as your name, whether real or an alias, and email address.
Currently, we use third party services such as Google Analytics that help us analyze where are readers are coming from and what parts of our website have been visited. This helps us improve the website’s functionality and create additional content that may be of interest to you.

Life On The Mediterranean does not send out newsletters currently, but may do so in the future. If we have your email address on file, we may send you a copy of our newsletter. However, you will always have the option at the bottom of every newsletter to opt-out. We are very much anti-SPAM and will not unintentionally fill up your e-mail boxes with our newsletters.

Our site uses log files, which tells us how many visitors we had to the site. These are provided by our hosting company as part of their hosting service. The info inside the log files includes your internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date/time stamp, landing/navigating/exit pages, time spent on site… This information is used to analyze trends, and to track user movements and demographic information.
We also use the services of Google Analytics who collect, monitor and analyze visitor information in order to improve our website’s functionality. These third party service providers have their own privacy policies that you should refer to.
Who we share your data with
This website is hosted by SiteGround and they provide us with anonymous statistical data and user numbers. You may find information about their Privacy Policy here. We do not knowingly share your data with any one.
How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are retained indefinitely. This is so we can recognize and approve any follow-up comments automatically instead of holding them in a moderation queue.
For users that register on our website (if any), we also store the personal information they provide in their user profile. All users can see, edit, or delete their personal information at any time (except they cannot change their username). Website administrators can also see and edit that information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account on this site, or have left comments, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you, including any data you have provided to us. We receive no personal information from 3rdparty sites, only generic statistical information.

Smush sends images to the WPMU DEV servers to optimize them for web use. This includes the transfer of EXIF data. The EXIF data will either be stripped or returned as it is. It is not stored on the WPMU DEV servers.
Smush uses the Stackpath Content Delivery Network (CDN). Stackpath may store web log information of site visitors, including IPs, UA, referrer, Location and ISP info of site visitors for 7 days. Files and images served by the CDN may be stored and served from countries other than your own. Stackpath’s privacy policy can be found here.
Smush uses a third-party email service (Drip) to send informational emails to the site administrator. The administrator’s email address is sent to Drip and a cookie is set by the service. Only administrator information is collected by Drip.
